AI has been implemented in nearly all services. However, most companies have been very upfront when AI has been implemented. However, recently, a content creator on YouTube discovered that his videos looked different from the content he uploaded initially. It turns out that YouTube has been altering videos with AI without telling the creators. Keep reading to discover more.
Music YouTuber Rick Beato Discovers That His Content Looks More Polished
\When Rick Beato was checking out his own work on YouTube, he noticed that his video looked artificially enhanced. It had sharper details, and people looked like they were wearing makeup. However, the YouTuber didn’t apply any of these effects himself. Another Music Creator, Rhett Shull noticed that someone had altered one of their videos, and made a video about it. The video currently has over 500.000 views, in which he explains how the AI-altered content has an “oil Painting” like effect and doesn’t represent the authentic content.

YouTube Confirms The AI Alterations
YouTube has confirmed that the content of Rick and Rhett was altered with AI. It would have been a part of an AI training program that would use multiple undisclosed shorts. The machine learning program was used to “unblur, denoise, and improve clarity” of the videos. It is not clear yet how many people were part of this “Select group YouTube Shorts” and what videos are included in the training program.

However, YouTube never confirmed how they implemented or used these changes. The company also declined to tell how creators can opt out of getting their content altered. This has started a debate amongst creators about consent and authenticity. It is also something that fans might see and not like, as this is not “the original content” they’re hoping to see. With YouTube not saying anything about it and just applying these changes to the content, they also lost the trust of creators, as they’re now afraid that their content might get altered in different ways, after they have uploaded the videos.
