Delta is known for its customer service and quality of flights. On July 18th, 2025, the passengers of a Delta Flight had a somewhat uncomfortable flight. The pilot of this plane suddenly made an aggressive maneuver, causing discomfort for the passengers. However, after learning why the pilot had to make this move, the passengers were very happy that they landed safely! Delta Pilot Makes Sharp Turn As He Spots a B-52 Bomber in Its Path<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On July 18, a connection Delta flight operated by SkyWest had to make an incredibly aggressive maneuver to avoid a mid-air collision. This was right before the plane was set to land<\/strong> at Minot airport. The controllers in the control tower had instructed the Delta Pilot to make a right turn for spacing. However, moments after the pilot initialized the right turn, he suddenly had to turn left. He spotted an Air Force B-52 bomber plane<\/strong><\/a> on a convergent path and had to react to avoid a mid-air collision. <\/p>\n\n\n

The controllers of the tower had not given the pilot any warning of the location and flight path of the B-52 bomber in it’s way. After the maneuver, the Delta pilot managed to land the plane safely and without injuring any of the passengers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Part of the problem is the last part of the approach at Minot International Airport. This part is executed without radar coverage. So the pilots and controllers rely on visual separation. However, this becomes quite complex when there is no communication between them and the nearby Air Force base. This Air Force base houses more than 20 B-52 bombers that make regular flights.<\/p>\n\n\n

Passengers Applauded the Pilot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Moments after the pilot had made the somewhat aggressive maneuver to avoid a collision with the Air Force-operated B-52 bomber, he had to tell his passengers what happened. He told them as transparently as possible that the Air Force had not given him any warning regarding the bomber. He also told the passengers that the Delta plane was visible on the Air Force’s radar.
