Almost a year ago, the CEO of TikTok was interviewed about its intentions and the involvement of ByteDance, which is located in China. There was suspicion of spying on US officials and other sensitive information with the use of the app. TikTok then had to decide to either sell the company or be banned from the United States 9 months later. The popular Social media decided to go with the latter option and that day has finally come! Keep on reading to discover everything about it!
TikTok shut down Earlier than expected!
On January 18th, the US government signed a bill into law banning TikTok from the United States of America, so at 10.30 pm that day, TikTok decided to cut off all access for American users to the app.
Creators haven’t lost their videos yet, as European and Canadian users can still access the content of these creators. However, people like TikTok Star Anna Sittar have lost access to the platform and can’t upload any more content. She has amassed over 15 million followers on TikTok and only has 1.5 on Instagram!
Whenever Americans try to use the app right now, they’ll get an error message explaining what happened and that President Trump is already working with them to come to an agreement to allow TikTok to come back to the United States when he’s back in office!

The app’s users flock to other apps to complain about the ban
There are a lot of people who use TikTok more than 2 hours a day, and these people will have to look for something else to do. Most of these people now go to other social media apps to watch Reels on Instagram, for example. However, they all complain about the fact that TikTok is banned.
There has also been a “TikTok” replacement app that gained popularity over the past week. The “Xiaohongshu” app, which translates to “little red book” has become insanely popular. It also shows that the US’s plan to prevent the Chinese government from spying has failed miserably. The headquarters of this app is located in China, while TikTok is based in Singapore and Los Angeles.
TikTok gets back just after one day of being banned
In an error message, it was stated that they were working together with Donald Trump to keep the App in the US. If they didn’t follow the original ban, they would have to pay hefty fines. Trump already stated that he would give the app more time to come up with a plan as soon as he takes on his role as POTUS. TikTok stated that they would be working closely together with Donald to come up with long term solutions.
