The reason why these microbial organisms can survive this well is because it is the optimal environment in which to thrive. It is warm and has sheltered crevices that create the perfect housing for bacteria, some even resembling extremophiles found in hot springs.

You might think that these bacteria are not good and you should try to wash your belly button as well as possible. However, the microbes also have a beneficial purpose for us. These microbes protect your skin, aid healing, and may influence immunity.
