Earlier this month, Tesla released their RoboTaxi service in Austin, Texas. Passengers will reach their destination in a driverless Tesla Model Y for a flat fee of $4.20. However, this is not the only thing that the company has automated in the past month! Recently, one lucky customer was the first customer to receive their Tesla fully autonomously. Keep on reading to discover more about it.
The Tesla Model Y used highways to get to the end destination
The Tesla Model Y started its journey at the Tesla Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, and then drove all the way to the lucky new owner, who received the car together with a few Tesla representatives who checked the car upon arrival. To reach the destination, the car had to use the highway, where it reached speeds of 72mph! The autonomous delivery service is currently not available to everyone. However, we don’t think it will take long before Tesla will simply deliver all of their new cars like this. Are you curious to see how the car drove? Then make sure to check out the full video here!
The future of car deliveries?
This first full autonomous delivery is a breakthrough in Tesla’s automation plans. The first step was automating the sorting process in the Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. Whenever the cars are coming off the production line, they will drive themselves to a parking spot until they’re collected by one of the customers or until they’re going on a truck to be delivered to a different location. With these Autonomous deliveries, these trucks won’t be as necessary anymore as people can just accept their own car by standing outside of their house!

With the Tesla Cybercab, people won’t even get a steering wheel or pedals anymore to drive the cars. These vehicles will drive themselves, with the owner just having to say where they want to go.
