In the US, people often hunt captive sheep for trophy hunting. The hunters are allowed to enter the grounds for a fee and then can hunt on these grounds. However, the bigger sheep always attract the most people. This is why Arthur Schubart created the Montana Mountain King, a very large hybrid super sheep species. Keep on reading and discover more about it!
Arthur Pleads That He Never Meant Any Harm by creating Super Sheep
Arthur’s lawyer claims that he never intended to harm the animals and that he always cared for them with love. Since the cloning of the sheep was something extraordinary and something no one else would have been able to do. He used this as an argument to get a probationary sentence to limit Arthur’s damages.
However, an attorney for the US Department of Justice said that the cloning of these sheep was a widespread operation, involving multiple states. The steps to create his super sheep were complex, involved multiple illegal acts and involved forethought.

Eventually, Arthur pleaded guilty to the charges that he and a group of others had imported tissue from the Marco Polo sheep to clone this sheep and use it and its descendants to create a Hybrid super sheep for trophy hunting. Resulting in a 20.000 dollar fine and a 6-month prison sentence. The sheep was taken into custody and will be transferred to a zoo where it will live for the rest of its days. Arthur also has to make a 4000 dollar donation to the US Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
He Used Marco Polo Sheep From Kyrgyzstan
To create his super sheep hybrid, he imported tissue from the Marco Polo Sheep originally from Kyrgyzstan. These are one of the largest sheep species in the world. They can weigh up to 136 kilos and have curled horns of 1.5 meters long! Arthur Illegally imported tissue and testicles from these Marco Polo sheep to clone them. When he was successful in creating his hybrid sheep he named the species the “Montana Mountain King”.
