On September 9th Apple held its annual iPhone release event, in which they announced the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 pro models. During the event, new generations of other products were also announced. However, the phones were definitely the talk of the event!
During the keynote, Tim Cook announced the new Apple Watch Series 10, the Airpods 4, and an update to the Airpod Max! Even though these are all slightly better than the previous models, the change was incremental.
The iPhone 16 doesn’t come with Apple Intelligence… yet!
One of the main parts of the event was Apple Intelligence and all of the things it would be able to do. As one of the biggest features, many expected it to be released with the new iOS and iPhone 16 models. However, this will not be the case. The first iPhone 16 models will come with iOS 18 installed, but the Apple Intelligence feature will only be available from iOS 18.1. It doesn’t stop there.

The iOS 18.1 update won’t give you access to everything from Apple Intelligence but will introduce some features. The other features will be included in updates after iOS 18.1! For many people, Apple Intelligence was the main feature which made the upgrade worth it. So many people will hold off from buying the newest model until the updates have been fully introduced.
Check out what tech reviewer Mrwhosetheboss had to say!
UK YouTuber Mrwhosetheboss, who recently achieved the world record for building the largest working iPhone replica, visited the Apple event and got his hands on the new models. Every year he makes a video about these and the new features, however this year he seemed less excited.
He says that the changes made to the iPhone are mainly for professionals. Things such as the new camera control button and the 4K120fps recording options for example. The changes might be good, but casual iPhone users will most likely not use them. Others have commented that the new features of the iPhone, just make it capable of doing things the Pixel phones have been able to do for a year already.
