If you’re a Spotify user who has resisted purchasing the premium version all the way until 2025, then you’re in for a treat! The company has now added different features for free-tier subscriptions that make the wait worth it! Keep on reading to discover what you’re able to do with this free upgrade.

Free Spotify users got an upgrade!

If you’re a long-time Spotify free user, you probably know that you’re only allowed to listen to music on shuffle and skip a maximum of 3-4 times per hour. So if you’re listening to a song you don’t enjoy, then you might have to just suck it up and listen to it anyway. However, these days are over!

Free users are now able to look up specific tracks and play them on demand if they want to. In addition to this, you’re now able to look up your own playlists and start with a specific song you would like to hear first. However, you will still have to listen to their advertisements every once in a while.

Why would you pay for the premium subscription?

Spotify generates 90% of its income from paid subscriptions. One of the main benefits before the change of the free tier was that you could play any song you wanted whenever you wanted it, without ad interruptions. However, now people with free tiers can do the same after listening to a 5-second to 15-second advertisement.

However, premium users still have other benefits that could make their plan worth it. For example, Spotify recently introduced “lossless audio” for its premium users. This gives you the full music experience without any loss of data. However, this is a feature that most of us won’t use as our equipment can’t handle that type of audio quality. However, one of the main features you benefit from as a premium user is that you can download your playlists for offline use. Perfect for when you don’t want to use data from your plan or if you want to listen to music on a plane!
