Six-Year-Old Runs 31km for Sick Children at Christmas

Six Year old

Most people celebrate Christmas with their families, exchange gifts, and enjoy nice food. However, this is not the case for everyone. Some people don’t have family or have to spend Christmas in a hospital. When 6-year-old Harry Simms discovered this, he immediately wanted to help. So, their family took on a challenge to raise money for sick children.

Dan Simms talked long with his son Harry after his kid asked what happened to less fortunate kids. When Harry realized that not everyone gets to spend Christmas at home, he wanted to help. A Hospital in their area, the Great Ormond Street Hospital, had a challenge to run 31km in December, which Harry and his dad immediately set out to do.

The Six-year-old plans on running more for charity causes that help children!

Harry wanted to start his run to help the children who don’t get anything during the holiday or spend Christmas sick in a hospital bed. Even though the challenge is to only run 31km in December, Harry hopes to run a bit more. Their family is quite active as Dan Simms, his dad, is a PE teacher, and Harry is a very energetic child. They didn’t have to train for the challenge and dove straight into it. Harry and his dad also set a monetary goal to raise money for kids in hospitals. Harry and Dan are not phased by any weather events and say they will even go for runs in rain or snow!

The Duo Smashed their goal!

Dan and his son Harry had set a £500 goal for their challenge. However, people seemed generous, and they raised around £650 after their first run, smashing their goal. Now, they’ll be trying to raise more money for these kids for the rest of the month.

Harry hopes that the money he and his dad raise will help pay for as much medicine as possible for these sick kids. Even though the medicine is the most important part to Harry, he hopes that the money will also be enough to buy the kids some gifts or toys as well.
