Right after the chaotic Belgian Grand Prix, the summer break for Formula One began. However, the break does not mean that the F1 world is standing still. Just a day after the Grand Prix, some interesting news about Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz was announced!
With the disqualification of George Russell, after he won the Belgian Grand Prix, many Formula One fans thought that would be the last interesting news of Formula One until the Dutch Grand Prix.

Why did Carlos have to leave Ferrari?
It wasn’t the performance of the Spanish Ferrari driver that made the team decide to replace him in the 2025 season. He is currently only 20 points behind Charles Leclerc and still in the top 5 drivers in the 2024 drivers’ championship. However, there was a better candidate who was looking for a sport in a new team in 2025.
Early on in the 2024 Formula One Season, Lewis Hamilton started silly season by announcing that from 2025 he would be joining Ferrari F1 for at least 5 years. Ferrari already had a long-term contract with Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc. This makes Carlos the only replaceable driver for Ferrari.

Carlos Sainz didn’t immediately have a contract lined up. For a while, it looked like he was going to sign with Audi to resume his Formula one career in 2026. However, after the Belgian Grand Prix, Carlos announced that he was staying in Formula One!
Williams F1 team Signs Ferrari Driver Carlos Sainz
Rumours of Carlos going to Mercedes to replace Lewis Hamilton were quite popular for some time. However, both parties said that there was no agreement yet. So when Carlos Sainz announced that he had a seat for the 2025 Formula One season, most people expected it to be at Mercedes.
However, Carlos decided to sign a contract with Williams F1, which was a shock to the Formula One world. Carlos currently drives for one of the best teams on the grid. Williams is on the opposite end of the spectrum in 9th place with 4 team points in total. Carlos now has a seat for at least two more years, but it could also kill his career. Driving for a team that can’t compete, reduces the chances of a driver getting a contract with a champion winning team.
