The OceanGate disaster was one of the most discussed events of last year. For most people, it was an obvious mistake to go with the OceanGate sub. Mainly because it would be controlled by a $25 Logitech gaming controller. However, in previous interviews, many questions and concerns were raised about the safety of the submersible.

The CEO, who also died in the implosion, addressed concerns, saying innovation sometimes requires bypassing rules and standards. Consequently, the company chose unconventional materials for their subs, which ultimately led to the implosion. All five aboard the submersible died instantly.

Family of victims Sue OceanGate For $50M

The family of the French explorer, who died in the Titan accident, filed a lawsuit for more than 50 million dollars claiming that OceanGate hid key elements of the durability of the vessel before the descent. Paul-Henri Nargeolet, known as “Mr. Titanic”, was the person who visited the wreckage of the Titanic most! However, in the lawsuit, the family claims that important information was purposefully concealed by OceanGate. If this information had been disclosed before, Paul would have never gotten in the submersible.

The lawsuit also claims that the submersible detached weights around 90 minutes into the journey. This was a sign that the crew onboard knew that the failure of the submersible was imminent and that they tried to abort the dive. The French family says it wants answers for what happened.

There are some concerns about the fact that OceanGate didn’t allow third-party checks of the safety of their submersible, which is normal in this industry and could have pointed out some serious flaws in OceanGate’s submersible.

Employees got fired for raising safety concerns

Even during the design and production process of the Submersible, there were employees who questioned the structure and the rigidity of the vessel. These concerns were not addressed and instead, the employees who raised them were let go from the company!

There are many fingers pointing at gross negligence of safety protocols by OceanGate, which will help the French family in their Lawsuit! After the incident, the company has stopped operating and has been shut down. However, the lawsuit is still ongoing so this is not the last thing we will hear about it!
