Nordic countries such as Sweden and Norway have always been at the top of leading their country to more environmentally friendly solutions. Norway wants to be 100% Electric by 2025!
To get as many people to buy full EVs as their new cars, The Norwegian Government gave benefits. They reduced the taxes that had to be paid. And since Electric cars didn’t have to pay tolls, driving electric was a good deal. However, over the years these rules have been changed. Now cars over half a million Krona are subject to VAT and some of the toll rules have been updated.
This didn’t keep the Norwegian people from buying full EVs. In September over 96% of the new car registrations were for fully electric vehicles. Full diesel cars were 1% of all new registrations while the full petrol cars were just 0,4% of all new registrations in September. Norway wants to achieve the goal of having only electric vehicles as new car registrations by 2025.

The jump in new electric car registrations makes reaching the goal of having only new electric car registrations by 2025 realistic!
The most popular EV models
The most popular EV models in Norway were the Tesla Model Y and the Tesla Model 3. Third place was for Volvo’s new EX 30! People registered over 4000 new Teslas. In addition to those, Norwegians registered 800 new Volvo SUV’s in September. Other top 10 most popular new EVs were the Skoda Enyaq, the Toyota bZ4X and the Volkswagen ID 4/ID 5 models! The longevity of these plans has to be studied since the country has to implement a lot more chargers to help the drivers in the cold winter months!
