Attention to all Minecraft fans! Soon you’ll be able to go mine with Steve as the game is breaking out of the digital world. A partnership between Merlin Entertainments and Microsoft is making a Minecraft attraction possible!
Minecraft is the most popular game of all time with over 140 Million monthly players and over 300 million dollars in sales. On YouTube, you can find millions of hours of content from different game modes to complete roleplaying games. Which means that there is a huge audience of people who would like to sit in one of the iconic “minecart” rollercoasters or other Minecraft themed attractions.
The perfect collaboration
Microsoft is teaming up with Merlin Entertainments, which is the second-largest theme park operator in the world, to open different Minecraft-themed attractions, rides, stores, and much more. In the first part of their “Adventures made real” partnership, Merlin is investing over 100 million dollars to open 2 attractions in the UK and the US. The opening dates for these are somewhere in 2026 for the UK attraction and 2027 for the US attraction. It is not clear yet if these would be additions to current theme-parks or if they would be city center experiences.
The collaboration between these companies is a perfect match. Microsoft has the branding of the game on point, while Merlin Entertainments is the brainpower behind real-life experiences in multiple locations!
Maybe you can go “mining” with Steve in the future
Even though initially the collaboration will make a Minecraft attraction in an existing theme park or as city experiences. These will be first opened in the UK and the US. However, there is a possibility that in the future get something similar to Legoland but for Minecraft!
Minecraft is expanding its reach
The announcement of the rides or attractions is not the only new thing happening to the Minecraft universe! There is a live-action movie coming to the big screens in April of 2025. The movie is definitely not a small production as they secured Jason Mamoa and Jack Black to play in it!
