Mercedes hasn’t been in the best position for the last seasons. However, it looks like they’re getting things right as the 2024 season ends. With Lewis Hamilton winning the Silverstone Grand Prix and George Russell’s 3rd place in Baku! As we’re getting ready for the Singapore Grand Prix which will start later today, we take a deep dive into the promising chances of Lewis Hamilton!
Trouble For Lewis Hamilton and George Russell in Free Practice
Both Lewis Hamilton and George Russel had trouble during the practice sessions and ended up nowhere near the top performers. This was blamed on the tyres, which George Russell mentioned multiple times. They couldn’t control the car properly and both drivers had trouble finding grip with their current set-up! With this in mind, the qualifying sessions were doomed before the drivers started. However, this wasn’t the case!

George Russel got into a bit of trouble after speaking out about the tyres. He mentioned that during the race, on supposedly faster tyres, his pace was the same as all slower teams. However, when he switched to the hard tyres, which would supposedly be slower, he was even faster than race leader Oscar Piastri!
Best Qualifying Session In A While
Somehow, both Lewis and George defied all odds and were actually able to have a great qualifying session. They were able to climb from somewhere in the low 10s to 3rd and 4th position. Both Mercedes cars outperformed the Ferrari team and McLaren Driver Oscar Piastri. The only drivers in front of George Russel and Lewis Hamilton are Lando Norris and Max Verstappen.

After the qualifying session, Lewis Hamilton was hopeful for the race on Sunday. His qualifying time was one 1.2 tenths off Max Verstappen and 3 tenths off pole position! These gaps are small enough that, with a good strategy and a solid team, Lewis Hamilton has a real chance of winning another Grand Prix!
