Lando Norris Takes Big Loss In F1 Standings

Zandvoort F1 Standings FT

This week, the F1 drivers had to race in Zandvoort in the Netherlands. Normally, this track isn’t really that interesting due to the lack of availability to pass one another; today, it was completely different! From Hadjar finishing in 3rd position, to Kimi Antonelli crashing into Charles Leclerc and Sainz getting a penalty he didn’t deserve, the race was anything but boring!

Lando Norris DNFs due to engine problems, while Oscar extends his lead in the F1 standings

The battle for first position was close between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. However, in the last part of the race, disaster struck for Lando Norris. His car began smoking, and he immediately asked his engineers if they could see fire. Moments later, he had to stop the car and end his race in Zandvoort. This made him DNF, which is why he did not get any points this Sunday.

Meanwhile, Oscar Piastri kept his first position and managed to keep it until the end of the race. The race win and the fact that Oscar Piastri managed to get the fastest lap meant that he is now a “Grand Slam” F1 winner. A Grand Slam in F1 means that the driver qualifies on pole, leads every lap of the race, wins the race, and gets the fastest lap. However, this achievement was overshadowed by someone else’s performance. Keep reading to discover what we’re talking about.

Isack Hadjar First F1 Podium!

Isack Hadjar, the VCARB rookie, stunned everyone with his P4 qualifying times. He was just a bit slower than Max Verstappen, and as a result, he could start right next to the Dutch world champion. He managed to keep his position even though he had to defend it multiple times. However, when Lando Norris’ car stopped, Hadjar also gained one position, meaning he finished third. This meant that he just achieved his first podium finish in the 15th race of his F1 career! This is the moment that overshadowed anything else from the Grand Prix.

Current F1 Standings

After the Zandvoort F1 Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri has extended his lead in the championship. Lando Norris lost out on some important points, but stated in an interview that he’ll keep going for it! We’ve included the current F1 standings of the top 5 drivers from this season.

  • #1 Oscar Piastri: 309
  • #2 Lando Norris: 275
  • #3 Max Verstappen: 205
  • #4 George Russel: 185
  • #5 Charles Leclerc: 151

Lando Norris can become a world champion, but it is very close to being impossible for this season.
