The final costs for the May 2023 coronation of King Charles were made public and have drawn criticism for the cost to taxpayers. The official report states that at £72 million pounds was spent, including £21.7 million on policing, and £50.3 million was spent by the Department fo Culture Media and Sport.

even though the government claimed the coronation was a moment of national celebration, many normal people questioned the necessity of extravagant spending at a time when people all over the country were facing challenging times.
Critics, including CEO Graha Smith, labeled the ceremony an Obscene event, especially during a cost-of-living crisis. They also pointed out the monarchy’s overall expense and the fact that Charles doesn’t have to pay inheritance tax. Especially on the estate he inherited from his mom, Queen Elizabeth. This inheritance consists of an estate that is worth more than 70 million pounds and generates over £20 million yearly! However, the King does pay, voluntarily, income taxes on the income generated from his inheritance.
Graham Smith also claimed that the actual cost of the coronation would have been much higher. This is if you included other departmental expenses for these ceremonies. According to the Anti-Monarchy group, the real number could reach up to 250 million pounds!
