Google’s Weather Tool, GenCast, Is more accurate than ever.

GenCast, Google’s new weather tool, uses the power of AI to predict the weather. After being trained with decades worth of data in 2018, it was tested in 2019 to predict the next 15 days of weather for a specific region. The results were 97.2% more accurate than the ECMWF, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts. When you’re looking at a prediction of less than 36 hours later, the tool would be 99.8% more accurate than the ECMWF. The ECMWF was seen as the golden standard of weather forecasting, but Google’s GenCast takes the new number one spot!

The best part of this is that it is capable of predicting up to 15 days of weather events in less than 8 minutes. The shorter the period, the more accurate these predictions will be! So, the days of overdressing or forgetting layers are over, as GenCast will help you to accurately determine how many layers you should wear before leaving the house!

Google’s GenCast could save lives!

The weather tool will not only be able to give you more accurate clothing advice. I can also be utilized to help with more severe weather predictions. For example, it could accurately predict natural disasters or heavy storms in certain regions. The new weather tool would be able to predict these storms days before they happen. This would give people in these regions time to evacuate or prepare their houses to protect themselves from the storm! It will also help countries have more emergency service personnel on standby for these events.
