It has been quite some time since Elon Musk made the insane purchase of “X”, then known as Twitter. After closing the 44 billion dollar deal, he started to change the company! One of the first changes he made was the way the content on the website was managed. He wanted to make sure that Twitter was a social media platform that protected the freedom of speech for everyone! This “free speech” protection is something that he takes very seriously and he is willing to go to some serious lengths to protect it! Recently this got him in some trouble in Brazil resulting in a ban of “X”!
Why Is “X” Getting Banned In Brazil?
X, formerly known as Twitter, was banned from Brazil last week. There has been an ongoing dispute between Elon Musk and Alexandre De Moraes, a Top Court Judge from Brazil. Elon Musk decided to not comply with an order from this judge, who asked to block certain political accounts for spreading misinformation. He claims that as long as the person isn’t actually committing a crime, they shouldn’t be banned. With this ban, over 40 million monthly users will not be able to check their app for the latest world news. (or of course, some funny dog videos!)
The Brazillian Judge Went Too Far
Elon Musk didn’t let this go by without fighting back. He accepted the ban from Brazil but made sure to let the public know his opinion of Alexandre. He claims that X is getting punished for refusing to comply with illegal orders to ban his political opponents.
However the ban on “X” is not the only thing the judge did against Elon Musk. He also froze the local bank accounts of Elon Musk’s internet company “Starlink”. The company claims that this was an unconstitutional attempt to hold it responsible for Elon Musk’s decision on X!
