The movie is about the life of UFC Legend Mark Kerr and the way his drug addiction affected his personal life. Dwayne is playing the man himself. For the movie, The Rock had to go through an incredible bodily transformation to portray the size of Mark Kerr. Make-up artists helped him get the extreme look of the real Mark Kerr, making the documentary-style movie as close to the real thing as possible

At the Venice Film Festival of 2025, the movie The Smashing Machine was shown for the first time. All the attendees got a chance to check out the new film before anyone else, and they loved it. They loved it so much that they even gave the movie a standing ovation for 15 minutes. During which Dwayne got very emotional.
