Boeing Satellite Explodes, Adding to Space Debris Crisis

Boeing satellite

It is not looking good for Boeing, bad things just keep happening to their products. Their planes are on backorder, they have had multiple problems with the reliability of their planes and even had a spaceship explode during a test flight. However, on October 19th one of the satellites they built exploded in geostationary orbit and caused quite a bit of unpredictable space debris!

Their Satellite Broke Into At Least 20 Pieces

On October 19th the owners of the satellite noticed that it wasn’t functioning like it should. The anomaly was reported but no further action was taken. However later it was reported that the Satellite had broken into multiple pieces and now float around as space debris and may cause problems for other satellites!

The U.S. Space Force stated that they’re tracking around 20 pieces of space debris to prevent collisions with other satellites. However, a different company, called ExoAnalytic Solutions let us know that they’re following at least 57 pieces from the exploded satellite.

Intelsat, the company that owned the satellite had no insurance for the satellite when it blew up. This means that they will have to put out a lot of money to buy a new satellite! The company will probably not order it from Boeing or keep it without insurance!

Boeing Is In The Middle Of A Financial Crisis

The news about the second Boeing satellite exploding is coming at a very inconvenient time for Boeing. They’re in the middle of a financial crisis and are at risk of becoming “Junk” investments. The crisis started after there were multiple of their 737 Max planes that crashed after bad quality control from the company. The company is now looking to borrow and raise 25 billion dollars to keep itself afloat. The exploding satellite will definitely not help Boeing reach this goal.
