According to data from the Copernicus Climate Change Service, 2024 will go down as the hottest year ever recorded. It is also the first time that the planet’s average temperature exceeds the critical 1.5ºC threshold, which was set by the Paris Agreement.

2023 was the previous hottest year recorded, with an average temperature rise of 1.48ºC compared to pre-industrial levels. However, in 2023, the temperature stayed below the critical threshold by 0.02ºC. The rise in temperature is heating the surface and water temperatures all over the globe!
