Just a week ago, the football world came to a stop after discovering that Diogo Jota and his brother Adré Silva had passed away in a deadly car crash. Diogo played for Liverpool and was on a multi-year contract with the team. With his passing, you’d expect the team to use the remaining part of his contract budget to find a replacement for him. However, Liverpool decided to do something different. Keep on reading to discover more.
Liverpool To Pay Out $20M to Wife And Kids
When transferred to Liverpool, Diogo signed a 5 year contract that would pay him nearly 10 million dollars per year. However, when a player passes away, the team does not have to pay the remainder of the contract to the end. This is where Liverpool has decided to make a difference.

According to a Portuguese newspaper, “Record,” Liverpool is going to keep paying out the rest of Diogo Jota’s contract over the next few years. This means that his recent wife and his kids will still get support from the team. Diogo’s wife will now inherit his assets worth $35 million, plus the remaining $20 million from the player’s contract. However, we think that she would rather have her husband back!
The team also mentioned immortalizing the jersey with 28, which Diogo wore; however, it is unclear whether the number will be retired or not.
Diogo Jota and his Brother Were Not Speeding
After it was revealed that the brothers were driving a Lamborghini and passing a truck, people assumed they were speeding. It would give a logical explanation as to why the tire was able to blow up. The speed would have caused tension on the tire and caused it to blow up. This would also immediately explain that they lost control of the car. However, the truck driver who was being passed said that they weren’t speeding at all.
