Did you have any travel plans the past few days and did you experience delays? Then the strikes in France might have had something to do with it. For most families, July is the beginning of summer vacation. This is why during the first weeks of the summer months, airports are busier than usual. However, recently Ryanair had to cancel flights for over 30.000 travelers because of strikes in France. Keep on reading to discover what airports are affected.
Strikes Caused Flights to be canceled in Paris and Nice
On July 3rd and July 4th, thousands of people are experiencing delays and flight cancellations due to an air traffic control strike in France. Both at the main airports in Paris International and in Nice, hundreds of flights were delayed, causing thousands of people to arrive late at their holiday destination or even get their complete travel plans disrupted.

There were two French unions that decided to go on a two day strike over working conditions. This caused over a quarter of all the flights to be canceled at the Paris airports while over half of the flights at Nice airport were canceled.
Easyjet and other aviation companies also expressed that these strikes were unacceptable. They said that it is not fair for normal people who were looking forward to their vacation! Tabarot, the Minister of Transport of France, stated that it was absolutely unacceptable that both unions would go on strike on one of the most important days of the year.
Ryanair cancels over 170 flights in France!
Due to the strike of the two French unions, Ryanair had to cancel more than 170 flights. These cancellations disrupted 30.000 travelers and their holidays! However, it didn’t stop there. Other flights that had to fly over France to get to their destination had to be rerouted as most of the control tower personnel were on strike too!
However, the airline also reported that even these cancellations didn’t affect their numbers that much. In addition to the 170 flights of July, 800+ flights were canceled due to the war in the Middle East. This affected less than 1% of their flights. In June, the Airline had over 109.000 flights.
