Vikings were the warriors of the northern countries. With amazing stories and myths, their culture was a unique one that we don’t see around anymore. However, not much except for tools, writing, and other material things have withstood the time since the culture died. However, a discovery in Denmark made a possible change in the things we know about the Vikings!
Archaeologists find multiple Viking Skeletons!
At the beginning of October, some archaeologists made a discovery of a Viking graveyard. Whenever people get buried, their bodies and bones will decay over time and become part of the earth again. The only thing you might find way later than the rest of a body are teeth. So what the archaeologists expected to find were some teeth or other things that take a long time to decay. However, they were surprised with around 50 well-preserved skeletons of Vikings.

It was the soil that the skeletons were buried in that made it possible for them to stay so well preserved. To get all 50 complete skeletons out without damaging them, they had to have a 6-month operation to dig all of them out. It took this long since all of the skeletons were buried in a 2000 square meter burial ground! This is an amazing find and will be able to give a lot of information about the Norsemen.
Why are these Skeletons so special?
The Vikings, who lived from around 793 to around 1060 A.D were known for their brutal raids of villages all through Europe. So normally the skeletons would be long gone. However discovering these, scientists will be able to tell more about the time they’re from. The soil in which they were buried was also able to preserve other things such as pearls, Brooches and other things. These will give us a better understanding of who the Vikings were and how they lived!
